Welcome to #WIPjoy! This week is done in roleplay, and I’ll be responding from the perspective of my characters!

Day 28: What are you self-conscious about?

Zephyr: I’m always self-conscious, and that makes me self-conscious.

Dwyn: Definitely my lack of a career.

Imani: I wish I knew more about the rest of the world.

Gabriel: I’d rather not talk about it, but if I have to, my chest bothers me.

Harlow: I hate the awful haircut Dwyn gave me.

Welcome to #WIPjoy! This week is done in roleplay, and I’ll be responding from the perspective of my characters!

Day 27: Do you sympathise with (or relate to) the antagonist?

Zephyr: No, I don’t sympathise or relate with her, at all.

Dwyn: I want to rip the rest of her hair out.

Imani: We don’t know each other, but from what I’ve heard… I doubt we would find any common ground.

Gabriel: Absolutely not.

Harlow: Zephyr and I do not get along well, but I think we have some similarities. The biggest difference between us? I use my potential to the fullest, whereas he does the bare minimum—and somehow gets to be put above the rest of us.

Welcome to #WIPjoy! This week is done in roleplay, and I’ll be responding from the perspective of my characters!

Day 26: Tell us about where you live.

Zephyr: I lived in an apartment complex with my dad and sister. It was busy and dusty.

Dwyn: My brother and I lived with our dad in the capital, and there was—or, is, I suppose, since it’s still there—a huge lake that makes us very lucky. Living in the desert isn’t the most resourceful.

Imani: I used to live in a small, secluded village.

Gabriel: My hometown was over the mountain, but it’s probably gone by now—I lived in a crowded town, and then in the ruins of a city for a while.

Harlow: While at the Academy, I lived in the capital, but my family lives in one of the government districts farther west. It’s a lot nicer there.

Welcome to #WIPjoy! This week is done in roleplay, and I’ll be responding from the perspective of my characters!

Day 25: A line you were proud to say.

Zephyr: “Dwyn, now isn’t the time for me to console you.” As much as I love my sister, she doesn’t have the best timing.

Dwyn: More than a line, since I went on a diatribe to Zephyr, but I’ll shorten it up for this: “Do you have any idea how lonely it is? … When you have no co-workers and your ship’s captain is a bombshell who wouldn’t give a girl anything more than a friendly hug? I have no friends, Zeph. I only have you now.”

Imani: “Do you regularly let all of the children swarm on one, like wolves on a weakened animal?”

Gabriel: “You can’t have me, in whatever context you mean.”

Harlow: “Because you’re not worthy. You don’t deserve the magic from this mountain.” We all should know by now who I said that to.

Welcome to #WIPjoy! This week is done in roleplay, and I’ll be responding from the perspective of my characters!

Day 24: Favourite way to relax?

Zephyr: I feel most relaxed when I get the chance to meditate and study.

Dwyn: Climbing up onto something—buildings were the most readily available. I love heights!

Imani: I used to love tending to the herb garden with my sister.

Gabriel: Meditating is the only relaxation I have.

Harlow: I like to go for a run, when I have the time.

Welcome to #WIPjoy! This week is done in roleplay, and I’ll be responding from the perspective of my characters!

Day 23: One thing you’d change in your past?

Zephyr: I would have joined extra-curricular groups at the Academy.

Dwyn: Entering the workforce as early as I did. Fourteen is a little too early—but don’t tell them that; they thought I was reaching my sixteenth birthday when I got the job.

Imani: I’d take back the meeting I had at the schoolhouse before my sister disappeared. I’m partly to blame for it. I should have minded my own business.

Gabriel: I wish I could’ve stayed in my hometown with both of my parents.

Harlow: I would have sought an apprenticeship earlier, even though that would have been against Academy policy. I lost so many years waiting to train when I could have, and now Zephyr has me beat.

Welcome to #WIPjoy! This week is done in roleplay, and I’ll be responding from the perspective of my characters!

Day 22: Describe yourself in five words.

Zephyr: Magical and anxious twin brother.

Dwyn: Curious and ambitious twin sister.

Imani: Determined, heartbroken, and still searching.

Gabriel: Longing for education and security.

Harlow: I’ll get what I want.

#WIPjoy Day 21

Welcome to #WIPjoy! This is week 3 and I’m posting a few of my favourite things about the WIP.

Day 21: I’m most impatient to hear reader reactions to…

The ending!! When I first started writing the story in 2013, it came to me in two scenes. The first was a battle scene showing two characters discovering a mysterious, glowing orb. The second was a band of characters finding out what those orbs do and where they come from—at the very end of the story, after another and very different battle. Those two scenes have remained largely unchanged—names and minute details have shifted, but the core of each scene has been the same since they first came to me.

Welcome to #WIPjoy! This is week 3 and I’m posting a few of my favourite things about the WIP.

Day 20: The relationship I root most for is…

Dwyn and Zephyr… Also maybe Dwyn and Imani. No spoilers, but the ending tests every relationship (as any good story should, I believe) and Dwyn’s relationships with her brother and her crush are the two relationships I want to survive.

#WIPjoy Day 19

A desert at sunset with a text overly that reads WIPjoy Day 19

Welcome to #WIPjoy! This is week 3 and I’m posting a few of my favourite things about the WIP.

Day 19: I love my world/setting because…

It challenges me. It’s a setting I’ve never been to (a desert) and it’s all very same-y. I have to do a lot of research and get creative with descriptions.
