Thanks for visiting my blog! My name is Coryl, like “coral reef” but spelled differently. You can call me Coryl Reef. I’ve been blogging on this domain since 2010, but like all good things in life, it grew, died, and reincarnated as I have changed and grown. My adoration for posting words and digital art have remained constant. “CorylDork” is my personal, digital phoenix.
My blog focuses on creative writing, mental health, and my daily life; I consider it “nicheless.”
Here is a quicky list of quirky facts about me:
- I don’t like chocolate unless it’s a small treat of dark.
- Lemon pastries and desserts are my favourite sweets.
- I have a penchant for art and graphic design.
- I have seen and loved every Studio Ghibli feature film. (Yes, even Tales From Earthsea.)
- I really suck
withat using prepositions.
- I feel my feelings by crying them. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
- I’m Canadian! Born and raised, and probably staying.
- I’m in my 20s and life is a weird struggle.
- I suffer from PTSD and consider it a chronic illness.
I identify as gender non-conforming and do not tolerate transphobic commentary. I lean toward a bigender identity, and if you don’t know what bigender is, there is information on Wikipedia and the Gender Wiki. I’ve written about gender identity on my blog with a few “personal experience” posts. He/him and she/her pronouns—feel free to interchange them; that’s what I do, after all!
I have a BA in Spanish Language, English Literature, and Creative Writing. I adore language, whether it’s writing it, translating it, reading it, or editing it. I write and am working on being published one day. I’m always willing to help other writers, so if you’d like to hire me for editing services, please contact me with your project, goals, budget, and I’ll see what I can do!
One day, I hope to visit Japan to see the village where my great-grandmother worked when she saw the A-bomb; visit a shinto shrine; and eat pork cutlet bowls until I burst. Until then, I’ll write stories, make art, and read books while constantly trying to be a better person. (Spoiler alert: I have to try really, really hard to be nice.)
Do you have any book recommendations? Send them to me!
I’m interested in reading a wide variety of genres within fiction and poetry.
